Obituary

Phyllis G. King, age 92, of Brookings, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m.

Phyllis Gwendolyn King was born November 14, 1923, on an acreage south of Brookings, to Harold and Helen (Macomb) Halstead. She attended school in Brookings. After her school years she worked at the S&L Store in Brookings and started babysitting at a young age. On March 15, 1947, she married Richard King at Brookings. After their marriage, Richard and Phyllis resided on the King homestead. In July of 1948 they moved to a farm seven miles north and four and a half miles west of White in Argo Township. They moved to Brookings on June 14, 2002. Richard died July 24, 2006.

Phyllis was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brookings, active in Mystery Sisters Extension Club, a 4H Club leader, and member of White Star Chapter No. 16 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include three children: Linda (Larry) Lambertus of Hendricks, Minnesota, Konnie (Robert) Lambertus of Stroud, Oklahoma, and Royal (Cindy) King of Mitchell, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin (Joyce) Halstead; and a sister, Carol (Mike) Seubert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; parents; a brother, Merle Halstead; and a sister, Kay MacRunnels.
