Phyllis A. Hoff, age 87, of Volga, died Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in Oslo Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be 5-8 P.M. Friday, October 23, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Phyllis Ardys Hoff was born December 5, 1921, near Volga, South Dakota, to Carl and Alma (Westrum) Hoff. She was baptized January 2, 1922, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on July 12, 1936, at Oslo Lutheran Church. She attended school at District 98 where she received her elementary education. She graduated from Volga High School on May 28, 1939.
Phyllis was a member of Oslo Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Volga American Legion Auxiliary. She served as a 4-H leader for five years. She moved to Volga with her brothers LeRoy and Vernon in 1977. She became a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga in 1975. She taught Vacation Bible School, sang in the church choir, and was active in Circle. She was also a member of Sewing Club. Phyllis enjoyed doing embroidery, entertaining, and corresponding with friends and family. Her seven brothers and sisters, LeRoy, Marvin, Leona, Ada, Noel, Orland, and Vernon, all predeceased her. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
