Phyllis Ann Gjertson, age 94, of Brookings, SD, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at United Living Community in Brookings. A Private Family Graveside will be held.

Phyllis Ann Gjertson was born on September 26, 1932, in McGregor, MN, the daughter of Leonard and Mildred (Lewellen) Hammarlund.

Phyllis grew up on the family farm and moved with her parents to Minneapolis, MN when she was in the 4th grade. After receiving her education, she was united in marriage to Ted Gjertson on July 29, 1954, in Miller, SD. During her working years, she was employed as a telephone operator at Miller, SD and later at Larson Manufacturing in Brookings, SD for 5 ½ years. In 1982, she was employed for Interlake Community Action for 12 years. Ted died on May 26, 1999.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and a Charter member of the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed fishing, camping and especially spending time with her family.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Denise (Danny) Olaer, LaVay (Jeffery) Mosley, Scott (Judy) Gjertson and Rochelle (Douglas) Duin; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband (Ted), Infant Son (Larry Moore), two sons, (James and Gregory “Todd”), two brothers (Norton and Leonard), three sisters (Maxine, Dorothy and Donna).
