Penny Rieger, age 50, of Brookings died Friday, August 15, 2003, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota after a three year illness of cancer. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, South Dakota. There will be no visitations. Penny L. Rieger was born December 30, 1952, at Marshall, Minnesota, to Marvin Curly and Hazel (Hanson) Rieger. Her family moved to Brookings and she graduated from Brookings High School in 1971. Penny moved to San Francisco, California, and worked for an insurance agency for seven years. She then moved to Arizona to be closer to her family. Penny worked as a waitress in Pinetop, Arizona, during the summer and in Mesa, Arizona, during the winter. Her fellow patrons were a large part of her life. She always seemed to put a smile on everyones face. Penny will be missed and remembered by her family and many friends. Survivors include her mother, Hazel Dotson, of Brookings, South Dakota; two brothers: Stephen Rieger of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Michael (Paula) Rieger of Gilbert, Arizona; a favorite niece, Megan Rieger, of Gilbert, Arizona; two step-brothers: Michael (Diane) Dotson and David Dotson, both of Brookings; two step-nieces: Emily and Heather Dotson, of Brookings; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Rieger and step-father, Manley Dotson.
