Pearl Bergjord, age 93, of Clear Lake, South Dakota, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, with interment at Bethlehem Cemetery at Astoria, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings and beginning at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Pearl H. (Dokken) Bergjord was born December 25, 1914, to John and Petra (Johnson) Dokken on the Dokken family farm near Astoria, South Dakota. She attended country school and graduated from Astoria High School in 1932. She worked for the Terry Caf, Strom Caf, and Rogness General Store in Astoria. On March 9, 1944, she married Helmer Bergjord at Arco, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the Bergjords farmed east of Toronto. In the early 1950s they moved to the Dokken home place and farmed there until January 1, 1957, when they moved to Clear Lake. Helmer died October 19, 1968. Pearl worked as a cook at the Deuel County Good Samaritan Center until her retirement. Pearl was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, and the W.E.L.C.A. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, playing cards, baking, and making lefse. The center of her life was her family. Survivors include her daughter, Pat (Orrin) Townswick, of Crooks, South Dakota; a granddaughter, Nicole Townswick, of Brookings; a sister-in-law, Marvel Bergjord, of Brookings; a special niece, Dolores (Bob) Houtkooper, of Brookings; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and nine brothers and sisters: Clarence, Cora, Marie, Oscar, Albert, Julia, Lawrence, Lillie, and John E.
