Paul Alfred Stumley, 74, died May 22, 2003, at his home in St. Louis, Missouri. He had been hospitalized numerous times in recent years for complications related to diabetes. A memorial service, with interment in First Lutheran Cemetery at Volga, will be announced at a later date by Eidsness Funeral Home. Paul Stumley was born April 8, 1929, in Volga, South Dakota, to Alfred and Kristi Stumley. She graduated from Brookings High school in 1947. An honor student and standout athlete, he was offered a football scholarship to attend Purdue University. Mr. Stumley earned a B.S. degree from SDSU in 1952, where he was a letterman in football. Upon graduation he joined the Marine Corps and completed CCS at Quantico Virginia. Mr. Stumley served his country proudly in the Korean War. Mr. Stumley had been a resident of St. Louis since 1955. He was a retired postal service employee and worked for many years at Krogers grocery store. He managed an apartment building in the city and was an office manager for H.&R. Block. He is remembered by friends and family for his generosity and many acts of kindness. Survivors include a sister, Ruth Hanson, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rolf and Sigurd.
