Obituary

Paul Daniel Stonefield, age 63, of Volga, went home to the Lord June 30th, 2017, surrounded by those he loved at the Avera Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.  Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 3, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in Volga.  Visitations will be from 4-6 P.M. Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.

Paul was born December 27th, 1953, to Nora (Thorson) and Frederick Stonefield in Huron, SD.  He grew up in Lake Preston and lived there until moving to the dairy farm near Beresford. Paul met the love of his life, Connie Tornberg in high school.  They were married September 30, 1973.  To this blessed and loving union were born two children, Jake and Heidi.  During the kids' school years, Paul could be found or heard in the stands of their sporting events, a tradition that he continued with his grandchildren. Paul was always connected to the earth and he served the Lord with his hands every day.  Paul and Connie lived and loved the farm life near Beresford for 12 years. Connie passed away of a brain tumor Sept 2nd, 2004.  For the last 12 years Paul made a happy and loving life with his life partner, Janie Isham.

Paul was filled with love, kindness and joy that he shared with anyone and everyone that he met. He could often be found working in his gardens. Paul loved to share the bounties of his hard work.  Another favorite of Paul's was riding horses, with some of his favorite memories being made trail riding in the Black Hills.  They say the size of a man's cowboy hat matches the size of his heart, and Paul's hat was as big as they come.  He loved to enjoy the flower gardens that he and Janie diligently grew.  He weeded and weeded some more, and they could often be found holding hands in the pergola or near their fire pit.  Paul was a creator, he loved to be forever working on projects in his wood shop, at his home or his children's homes.  Paul also enjoyed volunteering at the Brookings County Museum in Volga.  One of Paul's favorite times of the year was Christmas.  He was like a big kid all season long.  He also loved a big plate of lutefisk any time of the year.

Perhaps what Paul will be most remembered for was his big smile, dimples and huge heart. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life. They put the best and largest smiles on his face.

Grateful for sharing his life are his life partner Janie Isham; his son Jake (Sara) and their children Nora, Noel and Levi; his daughter Heidi (Lenny) and their children Kaylee, Maycee and Cooper; Janie's children Jessica (Stanley) and daughter Hayley and Caleb (Kira) and daughter Wren; brothers, Ron (Connie), Don (Robin) and Lonnie (Celina) Stonefield. Father and mother-in-law, Gordon and Ladell Tornberg, and in-laws, Mike (Ann) Tornberg, Steve (Kit) Tornberg, Bruce Tornberg, Sue (Gene) McTavish and Marlene (Steve) Gannon; many nieces, nephews and greats; special friends Rod and Julie King, along with Dan Overbo, Jeremiah Larsen, and Jami Selleck, and many, many other special friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Connie; his parents, Nora and Fred; step-father, Alfred; his brothers, DuWayne and Cal Stonefield; and brother-in-law, Randy Tornberg.
