Paul Arthur Dietrich, age 70, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at his home in Brookings, South Dakota, after a three month battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 24, 2004, at the Brookings Wesleyan Church with interment at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, Minnesota. Visitations will be 5-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Paul was born in Luverne, Minnesota, January 4, 1934, to Douglas and Sadie (VandeVelde) Dietrich. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1951. He then farmed and dairied north of Luverne until buying a farm south of Flandreau in 1962. He married Joann Liebel in October, 1956. They had five children. On February 14, 1997, he married Dorothy Grayson. They managed Southland Estates Apartments until the time of her death from cancer in June, 2000. Paul farmed all of his life. He also sold 4X4 Feeds and Vermeer Equipment. He continued to manage Southland apartments until his death. He enjoyed farming, horseback riding, camping, dancing, and joking. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Grateful to have shared his life are his fiance, Sharon Morrison, of Brookings; sons: Steve (Linda) Dietrich, of Rapid City, Jeff (Kathy) Dietrich, of Luverne, Minnesota, and Todd (Lisa) Dietrich, of Flandreau; daughters: Carol (Matt) Lavin, of Vermillion, and Diane (Doug) Boll of Sioux Falls; a sister, Rosemarie (Dave) Loose, of Pipestone, Minnesota; and fifteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary, his second wife, Dorothy, and a son-in-law, Lane.
