Pat was born August 11, 1935, the daughter of Tom and Lillie (Fox) Mullaney in Miller, SD.  She received her early education in Hand County before graduating from Madison High School in 1953.  Following graduation, she attended the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Mitchell. In November of 1954, she entered the Presentation Convent in Aberdeen where she spent ten years as Sister Mary Michael Ann, working as a nurse at both St. Joes and McKennan after receiving her RN degree in 1957.

In October of 1964, she took a job as the operating room supervisor in Wheat Ridge, CO.  It was there that she met and married Harry Cassell on September 17, 1965, in Thornton, Colorado.  To that union, three daughters were born. The family moved to Madison, SD in 1971 and then on to Volga, SD in 1974 where they farmed and operated a dairy operation until 1993.

With the kids raised and the cattle sold, she once again followed her passion of nursing working in a variety of hospitals and care facilities throughout South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming and Illinois.  She married Richard Sloan on August 26, 2000, in DeKalb, Illinois.  She returned to Volga, South Dakota in 2018.

Her Catholic faith was a source of strength and support throughout her lifetime.  She was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America holding numerous offices over the years.  She served as a catechist in a variety of areas and was often the lector and eucharistic minister at Mass.   She volunteered at Right to Life, Birthright, St. Vincent DePaul, Rover Rescue, was a Brookings County 4-H leader and a member of the Sioux Valley Extension Club for years.  A highlight each year was attending the South Dakota State Fair in Huron.   Recently she has been active in creating quilts for Brookings Area Sleep in Heavenly Peace and providing meals for the students and parents at Wednesday night religious education at St. Thomas More in Brookings.  She also enjoyed playing pool with a group of friends and organizing family reunions.  Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, volunteering, watching football and attending the events that her great-grandchildren were involved in.

She is survived by her three daughters, Ann (Kevin) Vostad of Volga, SD, Alice Intermill of Volga, SD and Janet (Todd Saunders) Wolf of Glenwood Springs, CO, six grandchildren, Stephanie (Dusty) Mattson, Ashley (Colby) Seifert, Melissa (Dane) Adee, Thorwald (Kasie) Vostad, Nick (Kacie) Intermill and Jacob Wolf, 14 great grandchildren and siblings Kathleen Ramm, Mel Mullaney, Paul Mullaney, Walter (Sharon) Mullaney and Rose (Tom) Bickett.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joan Johnson, brothers-in-law Dale Johnson and Gene Ramm and sisters-in-law Pat Mullaney, Jane Mullaney and Doreen Mullaney, son-in-law Reed Intermill as well as two infant sisters, one great-grandson and numerous friends.
