Maxine Kinch, age 89, died Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Brookings, preceded by interment at Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no visitations. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Raymond C. and Maxine Kinch Scholarship Fund c/o South Dakota State University Foundation. Phyllis Maxine (Klone) Kinch was born May 17, 1915, at the family homestead at York, Nebraska, to Philip and Clara (Kaltenborn) Klone. She received her education in York County schools and graduated from York High School in 1932. She attended York College, Kearney State Teachers College, and the University of Nebraska. She taught eight years in elementary education in Nebraska. On September 7, 1941, Maxine married Raymond C. Kinch at York, Nebraska. They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, until moving to Brookings in 1947 when Mr. Kinch joined the staff of South Dakota State College. Maxine was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brookings, United Methodist Women, Faculty Women's Club, and a charter member of the Du Cum Extension Club. She worked with the Girl Scouts and American Cancer Society, and she taught Sunday School. Craft work was a life-long interest. Survivors include her two daughters: Nyla (James) Schneeweis of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and Jane (John) Olsgaard of Columbia, South Carolina; two granddaughters: Amber Genau of Chicago, Illinois, and Sarah Olsgaard of Columbia, South Carolina; a grandson, Neal Olsgaard of Columbia, South Carolina; and two sisters: Betty (Jack) Dudley of Chesterfield, Missouri, and Janyce (Robert) Herbert of Eugene, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 23, 2000; and a brother, Dale Klone.
