Obituary

Orville Dean Morris, age 62, of Brookings, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings, with interment in Fairview Cemetery at White, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Orville Dean Morris was born June 24, 1946, in Hendricks, Minnesota, to Glenn and Helen (Kruse) Morris. He grew up in the White-Toronto-Astoria area, where he attended country school. He graduated from Astoria High School in 1965. Following graduation, Orville worked for the Brookings Dental Lab. On September 20, 1969, he married Joyce LeAnn Erks in Elkton, South Dakota. He worked for KC Auto in White and drove school bus for Kent Cooper. In 1976 he bought and operated Midwest Truck Stop in White and also operated the Texaco bulk plant. He sold the truck stop in 1979 and moved to Brookings, where he worked for the Staurolite Inn and Lloyd's Amoco. In 1993 ill health forced him to retire. Orville was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, QVC, professional baseball, and basketball. He was a fun-loving and charismatic husband, father, and grandfather, who had a special place in his heart for his family. Orville looked forward to trips to the cities, daughter and son-in-law coming home, going to the races with his son and family (and doing a little racing of his own), spoiling his grandchildren, frequent breakfast outings with his siblings, and the company of his wife, who will all miss him very much. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Morris, of Brookings; a son, Travis (Kendra) Morris, of Brookings; a daughter, Glenda (Dustin) McLagan, of Golden Valley, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Brittany Morris, Andrew Morris, Cierra Morris, Brayden Nielsen, and Brianna Morris; seven siblings: Marilyn Gleason of Chehalis, Washington, Gerald (Lois) Morris of Brookings, Gary (Lois) Morris of Estelline, South Dakota, Barbara (Kent) Cooper of White, Beverly deBlonk of Largo, Florida, Marlene Kaske of Tampa, Florida, and Arlo (Christine) Morris of Estelline. He was preceded in death by his parents.
