Oral A. Holm, Sr., age 86, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at his winter home in Mesa, Arizona. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, South Dakota. Interment will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Volga. Oral Arthur Holm, Sr., was born June 5, 1917, at Volga, South Dakota, to Alfred and Amanda (Reffling) Holm. He graduated from Volga High School in 1935. He received a bachelor's degree in economics and soils in 1939 and a master of science degree in economics and soils in 1940 from South Dakota State University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from May 1942 until March 1946, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Following the war he worked as a farm manager and loan appraiser for Equitable and Prudential Life Insurance Companies in Fargo, North Dakota, until 1951 when he became involved in real estate development in Fargo. He retired in 1982. Oral served as president of the Fargo Jaycees, president of the Fargo Kiwanis Club, and president of both the Fargo and North Dakota Board of Realtors. He was the first president of the Childrens Village Foundation in Fargo, and the first president of the North Dakota Real Estate Educational Foundation. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Fargo and a member of the Board of Directors of Gate City Savings and Loan. Oral attended First Lutheran Church in Fargo. As a lover of nature, he enjoyed planting trees, gardening, and bird-watching. Survivors include his wife, Louise; a son, Oral Holm, Jr.; and two step-children: Brad Newman and Adele Vernon; He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milford and Raymond Holm; and a sister, Florence Harrisberger.
