Obituary

Opal V. Stime, age 95, of Sinai, died Thursday, November 15, 2007, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at Sinai Lutheran Church with interment in the West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Opal Viola (Boyd) Stime was born December 10, 1911, on the family farm near Arlington, South Dakota, to Peter and Rachel (Rogness) Boyd, the fourth of nine children. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1923, where Opal attended Washington High School. She received a teaching certificate from Augustana College and taught in the Oldham and Sinai schools. On June 4, 1935, she married Osborne B. Stime at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The couple farmed near Sinai. Osborne died March 16, 1993. Opal moved to Sunchase Apartments in Brookings in 1996, and she has resided at the United Retirement Center for the past seven years. Opal loved teaching, and continued to do so, as she raised her childrenin church, in a home school kindergarten, and through the Womens Christian Temperance Union. After renewing her teaching credentials, she taught one year in a country school west of Sinai, and in a Madison school. For close to 30 years Opal and Osborne spent winters in Arizona, where they thoroughly enjoyed the desert and life with friends and family members. A life highlight was a visit to ancestral family in Norway. Opal always bore strong witness to her faith, often quoting scripture. She also carried her loved of reciting poetry, and her love of young children, to near the end. Survivors include daughter Faith (Phil) Anderson of Ashville, North Carolina; son, Mark (Sharon) Stime, of Sinai, daughter Joy (Randy) Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and daughter Hope Stime of Port Angeles, Washington; grandchildren: Mark Anderson of Cary, North Carolina, Tim (Carolyn) Anderson of Fletcher, North Carolina, Lisa (Dirk) Norgaard of Fridley, Minnesota, Lori Stime of Union City, California, Erik (Lisa) Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nicole (Nathan) Nelson Hines of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Sandra Nelson of Chanhassen, Minnesota; great-grandchildren: Sarah and Benjamin Anderson, Michelle (Phillip) Edler, Christopher Stime, Joshua, Jeremy, and Jacob Norgaard, Kirsten, Annika, and Olivia Gillam, Liliana Felton, Josefine Hines, Oscar Nelson; great-great-grandchild, Anna Ellen Edler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter, Hope Eunice; a grandson, Todd Stime; two brothers; and six sisters.
