Ona L. Van Dyke died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the United Living Community in Brookings, South Dakota, at the age of 77. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2012, at the First Assembly of God in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Ona Lorene Van Dyke was born January 28, 1935, in Hereford, Texas, to Alfred and Ona Lee (Wilkinson) Ellison. She attended schools in Bellview and Rosedale, NM, and then moved to Geneva, Nebraska, and later to Paxico, Kansas, where she was a graduate of the Paxico High School. She was united in marriage to Andrew Van Dyke on February 5, 1953, at the Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. After their marriage, she was employed for Capper's Weekly in Topeka. They then farmed near Topeka until moving near White, South Dakota, in 1958. They moved to Brookings in 1974, where Ona was employed for a short time at Mid Tech. Ona was a former member of the Bruce Assembly of God and currently a member of the First Assembly Of God in Brookings. She loved animals, roller skating and riding bicycle. Ona is survived by her husband, Andrew, of Brookings; one son, Randy (Darla) Van Dyke of Aurora, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters Mary Jane Ellison and Helen Palmateer, both of Inola, Oklahoma, and Margaret Glover of Alma, Kansas; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Angela Koerner, and two brothers, Horace and Charlie.
