Obituary

Olaf G. Anderson, age 92, died Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Sinai Lutheran Church with interment in West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday, April 21, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings and preceding services on Saturday. Olaf Gilman Anderson was born February 4, 1914, at Sinai, South Dakota, to Nels and Tomena Minnie (Thompson) Anderson. He grew up in the Sinai area and was one of seven children. He attended rural grade school. Olaf farmed with his parents and later for himself. He married Pearl Moe on April 28, 1936 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She died October 29, 1993. In 1965 he moved to Brookings and worked for South Dakota State University in food service for seven years. He married Ida Sloan on April 9, 1995. She died March 18, 2001. Olaf was the president of the Soil Association of South Dakota and Chaplain of the local Gideon camp. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany and Florida, water skiing, baseball, and softball. He was a foster parent for five years. Olaf received sales plaques from Archer. Survivors include six children: Lois (Ray) Farrell of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Eunice (Dennis) Severson of Palm Harbor, Florida, Richard (Janice) of Brookings, South Dakota, Dorothy (Jon) Ahlstrand of Richfield, Minnesota, Roger (Cindy) of Volga, South Dakota and Patricia Tucker of Brookings; a sister, Julia Ust of Brookings; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and three foster children: Gayle (Calvin) Soward, Billy Jo (Pam) Kitto, and Howard Kitto all of Flandreau, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; his wife, Ida; four sisters, Cora Mathison, Alma Moe, Hilda Olson and Myrtle Hamre; a brother, Adolph Anderson; a grandson, Phillip, a great-grandson, Brandon; and several nephews. Memorials may be directed to the Gideons.
