Norma R. Nielsen, age 93, of Lake Benton, formerly of Brookings, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the Hendricks Community Hospital. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. Friday, July 1, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Interment will be held at a later date at Memorial Hill Cemetery in Lake Benton, Minnesota. Norma Ruth (Doehle) Nielsen was born November 7, 1917, at Barron, Wisconsin, to George F. and Louise M. (Krause) Doehle. She grew up in the Lake Benton, Minnesota, area, and attended school in Lake Benton. On June 13, 1936, she married Rudolph Nielsen at Pipestone, Minnesota. He died in November of 1966. Norma worked for the SDSU Food Service for nine years and then took care of her mother until her passing. She moved to Brookings and in December 2007 moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law near Lake Benton. Norma enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting, and quilting. She had made over 100 quilts. Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia (David) Kurth, of Lake Benton; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Nielsen of Brookings, and Linda Nielsen of Sinai; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Phyllis (Virgil) Lyndgaard of Hendricks, Laura (Roy) Miller of Lake Benton, and Leona (Leif) Johansen of Lake Benton. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons: LeRoy and Richard; and a brother, Walter Doehle.
