Obituary

Norma Basmajian was born on October 27, 1919, in Mt Vernon Georgia, the daughter of Doster and Arlie Humphrey. She died on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Neighborhoods at Brookview at the age of 94. Services will be held at a later date in Georgia. Norma who was the oldest of five children. While living in Mt Vernon,Georgia, she helped her mother raise her younger siblings. After several years her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she received her education and graduated from Russell High School. She was employed at several companies just prior to WW II and during the war and met and married Edward in 1943 while he was a soldier in the Army at Fort MacPherson in Atlanta. After her first son Carlton was born in 1945, she remained at home to raise her children while Edward worked for the City of Atlanta. She enjoyed raising her children, volunteering at their schools and attending church and many church activities. She especially enjoyed our family pets and the yearly vacations to Florida. After her children were grown, she and Edward enjoyed traveling to many different cities across the country, especially Seattle, Phoenix and San Francisco. In her later years she and Edward moved to White, SD in 2003 due to Edwards declining health to be close to their oldest son Carlton. Edward passed away in Feburary 2012 at the White Care Center. Norma lived at Greenleaf/Edgewood Vista Assisted Living till March of this year and moved to The Neighborhood at Brookview. Norma is survived by her children, Carlton (Janet) Basmajian of White, SD, Michael (Christina) Basmajian of Peachtree City, GA; three grandchildren, Carlton (Paola) of Ames, IA, Mariana and Isabella of Peachtree City, GA; her sisters, Hilda of Griffin, GA, and Lestina of Peachtree City, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister (Connie) and one brother (Mark).
