Obituary

N.M. Bud Tyler, age 91, of Astoria, passed away, Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at the Hendricks Hospital, Hendricks, Minnesota, due to complications from diabetes. Since Buds favorite season was Spring, funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in White, South Dakota, with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, March 19, at the United Methodist Church. Eidsness Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Navelle Marion Bud Tyler was born June 26, 1919, to Roy and Louella (Hartley) Tyler, on the home farm southeast of White, South Dakota. He attended elementary school at Sherman District No. 104 and two years of high shool in White. In 1939, he joined the Navy where he served his country for seven years, some of which aboard a mine-sweeper off Panama.

On April 8, 1943, Bud married Doris Anderson of Huron, South Dakota, at Hendricks, Minnesota. After his discharge from the Navy, they lived in Huron for three years, where he worked as a diesel mechanic for the State Highway Department. In 1946, they moved to Lompoc, California, where he worked as a plumber, and lived there until 1948, when the family moved back to a farm southeast of White. In 1953, they moved to a farm southwest of Astoria where he lived until the present time.

Bud is survived by his wife, Doris, of Astoria; daughters, Patricia Patty Sik of Hendricks, and Janice (Jerry) Mathison of Astoria; a grandson, Kelly (Tammy) Mathison, of Hendricks; granddaughters, Paula Mathison of Plano, Texas, and Sharla (James) Benz of Hendricks; great-granddaughters, Chelsey Benz, Erika, Mikah, and Nicole Mathison; great-grandsons, Austin Benz and Kyle Mathison; a sister, Ardith (Vern) Gillespie of Grover Beach, California; half-brothers, Ronald (Wanda) Tyler of White and Lowell (Dawn) Tyler of Dawson, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Louella; a brother, Vernon; a son-in-law, Dennis Sik; and a grandson, Patrick Sik.
