Myrna Schirmer, age 82, of Brookings, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the United Church of Christ in Brookings, with interment in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. Myrna Emily Margarete (Kracke) Schirmer was born June 12, 1922, at White, South Dakota, to John and Violet (Ohse) Kracke. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1940 and from the South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls in 1941. During World War II she worked as a riveter in the Chicago Defense Plant for Douglas Aircraft. Following the war, she operated a beauty shop in Elkton. On December 25, 1947, she married Raymond Butch Schirmer at Elkton. The couple lived at Elkton all their married life. Butch died January 26, 1989. Myrna was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Rebekahs, and White Star Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served in most offices including Worthy Matron. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and held many state chairmanships. She was involved in Extension Club for over 40 years. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Other special interests included traveling and playing bingo. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and also her Wednesday lunch group. Survivors include her four children: John (Barb) Schirmer of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Bill (Donna) Schirmer of Topeka, Kansas, Cindy (Rodney) Schick of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Jim (Sue) Schirmer of Indianola, Iowa; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Bell of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Dorothy Kracke of Madison, South Dakota; and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Wilfred Kracke.
