June 2, 1933 – July 25, 2022
Morris Knutsen, age 89, of Volga, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Brookings Hospital. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. on Friday, July 29th at First Lutheran Church in Volga with burial to follow at First Lutheran Cemetery.
Morris was born on June 2, 1933, in Centerville, SD to Helge and Signe (Pedersen) Knutsen. The family moved to Sinai before relocating to a farm near Oakwood Lakes. Morris graduated from Volga High School in 1951.
After high school, Morris worked on the family farm until his marriage to Donna Ann Warnes on July 5, 1953. The couple began farming close to Morris's family. On March 4, 1954, Morris was called to serve his country. He dutifully served in Korea helping to rebuild roads and bridges following the war. Morris was honorably discharged on December 21, 1955. He shared many stories of his time in Korea, specifically about the ride home when the ship traveled through a typhoon.
Following his discharge, Morris continued to farm until the early 1980's when he began working as a field mechanic for Dave Gustafson & Company. He continued working as a field mechanic until the early 2000's when he retired. Although officially retired, he continued to work on farm equipment for friends and family. One of his proudest achievements was the design and construction of a crane system in his shed that allowed him to continue working on tractors in his advancing years.
Morris was a member of Frist Lutheran Church. He believed God had given him a gift and it was his calling to share his gift with others. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his faith and his abundant love for his family.
Grateful for sharing his life are sons Morris and Dennis of Volga, daughters Marcia (Daryl) Larson of Chaska, MN, Marla (Steve) Hayes of Presho, SD, Dianne (Jeff) Mathison of Hopkins, MN, and Julie (Kevin) Gunderson of Volga; 11 grandchildren: Jesse, Jason, Zach, JR, Jodie, Jaime, Nick, Ryan, Amanda, Natalie and Andrew; two step-grandchildren, Mike and Heather; 15 great-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren; two sisters Sylvia and Beverly and numerous other relatives.
