Milton Janssen, 90, of Elkton, passed away Monday, November 26, 2007, at Riverview Manor in Flandreau. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 30, 2007, at the Elkton Community Center with interment at the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations are 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Milton Joseph Janssen was born July 21, 1917, to Martin and Anna (Roth) Janssen. He spent his early years in Moody County and later moved to Brookings County, where he would live the rest of his life. He married Arlyne Benz on January 5, 1944. They lived and farmed in rural Brookings County until moving to Elkton in 1952. While living in Elkton , Milton worked for the Elkton Creamery, Roy Kramer Implement, and the Elkton Locker. He spent 25 years driving school bus for the Elkton Public School. He also proudly served on the Elkton Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed making latch hook rugs for his family and friends. He enjoyed Lawrence Welk and following the St. Louis Cardinals. But his favorite past time was being surrounded by family. Milton is survived by his wife, Arlyne, of Elkton, his children: Kathryn (LeRoy) Brown, of Elkton, Marjorie Johannsen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Virginia Janssen of Brandon, South Dakota, Raymond (Donna) Janssen of Sturgis, South Dakota, Patricia (David) Burris of Abilene, Texas, Peggy Glover of Elkton, and Shirley Courtney of Altoona, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mildred Landsman and Marilyn (Marvin) Steinback, both of Brookings; and one brother Marshall Bud (Jean) Janssen of Elkton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Milo; a sister, Marie Halstead; an infant son; and infant grandson.
