Mildred Strande, age 95, of Volga, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 4, 2008, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Mildred Louise (Odegaard) Strande was born March 14, 1913, at Moe, South Dakota, in Lincoln County, to William and Susie (Olson) Odegaard. She moved with her family when she was 14 months old to a farm near Lake Campbell. She attended country school at District No. 97. In 1932 the family moved to Brookings, where Mildred worked in a laundry. On April 18, 1942, she married J. Philip Strande in Brookings. Following World War II, the Strandes lived in Brookings before moving to a farm near Volga in 1952. Mildred worked for the Silver Bell Caf and the SDSU Food Service where she became the head cook. Phil died July 25, 1992. Mildred was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga, and the ladies aid. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, reading, and gardening. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining and treating her family to homemade lefse and many other dishes. Survivors include a son, Duane (Linnea) Strande, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a daughter, Marilyn (Mark) Klinge, of Cedar Park, Texas; four grandchildren: Chad (Candi) Klinge stationed in the Netherlands, Melissa (Cal) Conniff of Round Rock, Texas, Aili (Robert) Rudd of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mike (Julie) Strande of Tigert, Oregon; six great-grandchildren: Ella Klinge, Travis Conniff, Ryan, Jason, and Megan Rudd, and Nicholas Strande; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters: Esther Odegaard and Wilma Fineran.
