Mildred I. Sapp, age 83, of rural Bruce, died Friday, May 27, 2011, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at First Reformed Church in Volga, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Monday at First Reformed Church. Mildred Irene (Kleinjan) Sapp was born July 13, 1927, near Volga, South Dakota, to John D. and Hazel (Nesbit) Kleinjan. She was baptized at Olivet Presbyterian Church in Volga. She attended country school and graduated from Volga High School in 1945. She received teacher's training at Madison Normal and then taught in country schools near Volga and Bruce. On April 2, 1948, she married O. Earl Sapp at Calvary Presbyterian Church. Mildred became a devoted farm wife and mother, residing on the farm north of Volga. An accomplished pianist, she gave piano lessons for several years. Mildred was a member of First Reformed Church in Volga and was active in the ladies' society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a master cook and gardener and loved flowers and music. Survivors include her husband, O. Earl Sapp, of rural Bruce; seven children: Charlotte Fedders of Britt, Iowa, Martha (Stan) Hibma of Orange City, Iowa, Charles (Ruth) Sapp of Volga, Steven (Lori) Sapp of Bruce, Barbara (Les) Vander Plaats of Orange City, Iowa, Paul (Peggy) Sapp of Holland, Michigan, and Sarah (Kevin) Carter of Fort Pierre, South Dakota; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marie Anderson of Mount Dora, Florida, and Ruby Ritterbusch of Pierre, South Dakota; a brother, Eugene (Lois) Kleinjan of Bruce; and a sister-in-law, Adriana Kleinjan, of Volga. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Lee Fedders; and brothers Lester and Wilbur.
