Mildred I. Dahl, age 87, of Brookings, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 26, 2009, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, preceded by interment at 11:00 A.M. in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Mildred Irene (Hill) Dahl was born November 22, 1921, in Pine City, Minnesota, to Alfred and Edna Mae (Starman) Hill. She attended school in Brookings, South Dakota, graduating from BHS in 1939. On February 24, 1946, she married Jimmie P. Dahl at Aurora, South Dakota. They lived on the Dahl family farm northwest of Elkton, South Dakota for 32 years and moved to Brookings in November of 1978. Jimmie died in 2001.
Mildred was a member of the First Church of God which later became the Morningside Community Church of Brookings. She served there for many years as church historian. She was a member of Petal Pals Garden Club and the Alton Extension Club. She was always volunteering her time for Meals On Wheels, the garden at the United Retirement Center, Habitat for Humanity, the RSVP Program, and worked for many years at Medary Acres Greenhouse. Mildred lead and taught many Bible studies, through her years of Christian service, for those who wished to learn more about the Lord. She enjoyed baking, entertaining, her pet cats, gardening, and bird watching. Mildred loved homemaking and caring for her husband, family and friends. There was always a hot cup of tea ready for those who stopped by.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen (David) Walker of Pierre, South Dakota; five grandchildren: Heather Potter of Mountain View, Wyoming, Heidi Nagel of Winner, South Dakota, Joshua Meyer of Anchor Point, Alaska, Audra (James) Cardwell and Lynsey (Darin) Anderson of Pierre; nine great-grandchildren: Erin Rozeboom and Brailen Potter of Mountain View, Shaneyl, Chesney, Brekkyn, and Tayla Nagel of Winner, Izabella Cardwell, Ayden and Jayce Anderson of Pierre; two brothers: Warren (Wendy) Starman of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Kenneth (Mary) Starman near Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and one brother.
