Obituary

**The Funeral Service for Michael Davis II can be found in the window immediately following the obituary text.  The funeral service begins approximately 34 minutes into the video.**

Michael Dean Davis II was born in Brookings, South Dakota on August 6, 1980, to Michael and Debra (Herold) Davis.  He was 43 years, 2 months, and 15 days old when he passed away at his home under hospice care after a short battle with rare disease called Moyamoya.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings at 10:00 A.M.  A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service in the funeral home reception area.  Visitation will be held the evening prior, Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home.

Michael grew up in the Brookings area, attending Brookings High School, later obtaining his GED in 1999.  Mike was united in marriage to Dawn Struck from 1999 until 2019.  Throughout his life, Mike had many wonderful qualities.  He especially loved helping people, and he held a great talent for understanding electronics, particularly computers.  Over time, Mike found himself becoming the "go-to" computer technician for his family and friends.  Mike was an employee of Gateway in Sioux Falls, and Walmart and Advance in Brookings.  Mike was baptized, confirmed, and married at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, South Dakota.

Mike loved movies, especially the Friday the 13th franchise.  He loved keeping his mom, dad, and sisters up-to-date about the latest current events and movies.  He was an avid member of an online chatroom community for over 15 years where the members discussed and shared their techniques and love for technology.  His love of technology was later passed on to his son, Ethan, and the pair were working on creating an online game titled "Time Phantom" together.  Mike was an exceptional father to his three children, and he cherished the time that he was able to spend with them.  It was a yearly tradition for him to read "The Night Before Christmas" to them in preparation for Christmas morning.  Although Mike was a man of few words, those who knew him were able to experience his dry humor, wisdom, and unconditional love.  His dry sense of humor could often be conveyed through his love of the statement t-shirts that he wore.  He was a wonderful listener, and because he possessed a vast knowledge of many topics, he was able to carry on a conversation with anyone. Throughout his life, Mike struggled with depression, however, instead of allowing his depression to overcome his life, he used his experiences to help others fighting similar battles.  Mike also had a passion for books and reading, and when he was young began reading encyclopedias.  He loved to listen to music, his favorite genre being alternative rock.  Mike also had a love of cats.

Mike is survived by his daughters: Caitlin Marie, of Pipestone, MN and Samantha "Sam" Autumn, of Pipestone, MN; son, Ethan Michael, of Pipestone, MN; parents Michael and Debra (Herold) Davis, of Brookings, SD; sisters: Mandy (Craig) Wadsworth, of Brookings, SD and Stacy (Joe) Rice of Brookings, SD; nieces and nephews: Matthew Wadsworth, of Brookings, SD, Alyssa Wadsworth, of Sioux Falls, SD, Elana Rice, of Brookings, SD, Jeffory Rice, of Brookings, SD, Megan Wadsworth, of Brookings, SD, and Luke Wadsworth, of Brookings, SD; grandfather Melvin Herold, of Brookings, SD; aunts: Cindy (Marty) Christensen, of Mitchell, SD, Jodie (Barry) Nielsen, of Sioux Falls, SD, Lori (Tony) Brallier, of Brookings, SD, Barb (Steve) Bublitz, of Huron, SD, Pat (Don) Borgan, of Sisseton, SD, Jane Herold, of Brookings, SD, and Terri Davis of Rapid City, SD; and his uncles: Bill Herold, of Brookings, SD, and Dan (Deb) Herold, of Sioux Falls, SD; and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Wilma (Wilaby) Herold, Buehl Davis, and Delila (Jepsen) Davis; and one uncle, Doug Herold.

In lieu of flowers, Michael's family requests that monetary donations be made to the family in his memory to assist with final expenses.  Donations may also be made through Michael's gofundme page at https://gofund.me/576e3354
