Melinda Johnson, age 53, died quietly at home in Brookings on Friday, June 7, 2013, after losing her fight with cancer. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Bible Baptist Church in Brookings. Visitations will be from 4-6 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Melinda E. (Roberts) Johnson was born March 6, 1960, in Jamesport, Missouri, the daughter of Theodore and Myrtle (Mumma) Roberts. She was a graduate of Smithville High School in 1978 in Smithville, Missouri. She has been employed at 3M in Brookings since 2002. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Darin Johnson, on June 29, 2002, in Brookings. Melinda enjoyed working on crafts, cooking, flowers, and playing with piano with her dogs singing along. She enjoyed several other interests and activities including sitting in her sun room, watching and listening to nature, riding her motorcycle, Facebook, antiques, woodworking, and angels. Survivors include her husband, Darin; her beloved dogs, Dixie Rose and Sadie, father Theodore (Theo) Roberts, of Iberia, Missouri; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Darwin and LaVonne Johnson, of Brookings; children, Cristi (Chris) Holthe of Independence, Missouri, and Jeremiah Haskett of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren: Nathaniel, Andrew, Kaleb, and Noah; sister-in-law, Julie (Jim) Colby, of Volga, South Dakota; brother-in-law, Donavon (Lynn) Johnson, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and special friend, Rynell Schalesky, of Brookings.
