Melba V. Christensen, age 90, of Brookings, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Grace Lutheran Church in Nunda, with interment in Prairie Queen Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Melba Viola (Albertson) Christensen was born September 24, 1914, at Nunda, South Dakota, to Oscar and Mabel (Grinde) Albertson. She grew up on the family farm. Her mother died when she was 11. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1933. On July 7, 1946, she married Elmer Christensen at the Prairie Queen Church at Nunda. They farmed for many years near Nunda. In 1983, the Christensens moved into Brookings. Melba was a member of the Prairie Queen Church and Grace Lutheran Church at Nunda. She served as the church pianist and organist at both churches, and was active in the womens organizations. She enjoyed music, writing, and reading. Survivors include her husband, Elmer Christensen, of Brookings; three sons: Ray (Alice) Christensen of San Antonio, Texas, Lowell (Sandy) Christensen of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and Curt (Deb) Christensen of Stillwater, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Hotvet, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Irene and Ina Mae; and two brothers, Carmen and Vernon.
