Mel M. Hagan, age 75, of Brookings, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Kingsbury Memorial Manor in Lake Preston, South Dakota. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 1, 2003, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Mel M. Hagan was born March 19, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Martin and Marie (Schneider) Hagan. He grew up and attended school in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1950 until 1954. On May 5, 1956, Mel married Mary Degnan at St. Louis, Missouri. They resided in Poplar Bluff until 1962 when they moved to Huntington Beach, California. Mel was employed as a sales representative for numerous companies including his own printing business from 1978 until 1992 when he retired and moved to Brookings. Mel was an avid basketball and football fan, especially of the L.A. Lakers and (L.A.) St. Louis Rams. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Brookings; one son, Steve Hagan, of Brookings; one daughter, Bethann (David) King of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Maxine Sheldon, of St. Louis, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
