Mazie Broksieck, age 94, of Brookings, died Friday, September 19, 2008, at the United Retirement Center. Interment will be 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Lakeview Cemetery at Clear Lake, South Dakota, with a memorial service following at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Brookings. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Mazie Arlene (Tribitt) Broksieck was born November 15, 1913, at Altamont, South Dakota, to George and Mary (Kase) Tribitt. She attended country school near Tunerville. On December 2, 1931, she married Alvin C. Broksieck at Clear Lake, South Dakota. They farmed in the Goodwin-Bemis area until 1955 when they moved to Brookings. They operated a rooming house near the SDSU campus and worked for the SDSU food service. Alvin died November 15, 1988.
Mazie was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking, raising flowers and cacti, doing crossword puzzles, and playing solitaire and Scrabble.
Survivors include two sons: Marlynn (LaVonne) Broksieck of Brookings, and Don (Donna) Broksieck of Bonner Springs, Kansas; a daughter, Cheri Cody of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Whitney, of Watertown, South Dakota; and a sister-in-law, Delores Broksieck, of Bemis, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, five brothers, and three sisters.
