Maynard L. Bjorklund, 87, passed away January 26, 2016 from congestive heart failure. As per his wishes, no services will be held. A private burial will take place at East Norden Cemetery on a later date.

Maynard was born on June 8, 1928 to Ted and Altha (Bergerson) Bjorklund on the farm near Lake Poinsett. After high school, he became an electrician and farmed for 40 years. Maynard enjoyed early morning coffee and hunting trips with his friends. He was an avid reader and loved classical music. His favorite pastime was to drive his pickup truck slowly through the countryside. What everyone will miss most is his impressive memory of important dates and weather patterns.

He never married, but will be remembered by friends and family including sister Mavis Anderson and her children: Gail (Dr. Michael) Knier, Janise (Marty) Bader Jr.; sister Ardyce (Dean) Gackstetter and her children: Gary (Jeanne) Gackstetter, Wendy (Sandy) Anderson, Tim (Nancy) Gackstetter, Todd (Patti) Gackstetter; sister Joan Carey and her children: Faith (Dennis) Spark, Brant (Lynn) Carey, Trent Carey and Joy Eastgate; also many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Lee Carey, and brother-in-law, Floyd Anderson.

The family thanks the staff at Brookings Hospital, Dakota Sun Assisted Living, and Lake Norden Care Center for their excellent care. A special thank you to Scott Matson for being such a dear friend to Maynard.
