Saturday, July 8, 2006, at First Presbyterian Church in Brookings, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home. Maxine (Linn) Shelden was born September 1, 1913, on a farm outside of Volga, South Dakota, to Helen (Lenocker) and Guy Linn. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1931, and later Mitchell Business College. She married Burdette Shelden on September 9, 1933. Together they worked on the farm until they purchased Grossman Sales Pavilion and moved to Brookings in 1945. Maxine made homemade goodies to sell on sale day and ran the lunch counter. Burdette and Maxine sold the sale barn in 1960 to enjoy retirement and moved to their own Green Acres in 1969 where they enjoyed quick, easy access to the Brookings Country Club. In 2001, Maxine and Burdette moved to Arrowhead Apartments. Maxine moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living in 2004. Through their retirement years, Burdette and Maxine enjoyed bowling on several leagues, traveling in their Winnebago with the Ringneck Winnies, fishing at their cabin on Lake Poinsett, crafting in Tucson Estates, Arizona, spending time helping Dick and Judy on the farm, and golfing every chance they had. Maxine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brookings. Her husband Burdette, her son Robert, and her son-in-law Richard preceded Maxine to heaven. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Jensen of Brookings, three granddaughters, Susen (Jim) Schirmer, Londa (Robb) Hexum and Lynal (Tim) Jensen, three great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and her sister, Helen Albright.
