Maxine L. Lakeman, age 82, of Brookings, died Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Maxine Lillian (Hendricks) Lakeman was born February 2, 1927, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Paul and Marie (Papka) Hendricks. She grew up in the Brookings area and attended Brookings schools. On April 23, 1949, she married Floyd A. Lakeman at Pipestone, Minnesota. The Lakemans lived their entire married life in Brookings. Floyd died April 27, 1991.
Maxine was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, dancing, and playing cards. She especially liked going out to eat, having coffee with friends, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Clarin, of Brookings; a son, Dean (Wendi) Lakeman, of St. Louis, Missouri; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Larry (Barbara) Hendricks, of The Villages, Florida; a sister, Beverly Perry, of Downers Grove, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Bonnie (Donnie) Nesheim, of Minneapolis, MN; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a sister, Audrey Dock; a son, Gary; son-in-law, Rick Clarin; and brother-in-law, Wayne Perry.
