Mary Wolpert, 96, of Brookings, passed away on January 4, 2023, at the Brookings Hospital.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings at 11:00 A.M.  Visitation and a time of fellowship will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the church.  Burial will immediately follow the service at Spirit Lake Presbyterian Cemetery in De Smet, SD.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the Wolpert family with arrangements.

Mary Ann Wolpert was born on February 27, 1926, in DeSmet, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Annie (Dirksen) Poppen.

Mary was raised on the family farm near DeSmet, and moved to Lake Preston, South Dakota in 1936.  She was a graduate of the Lake Preston High School in 1943.  She continued her education at Augustana and Sioux Valley Hospital, received her B.S. degree in 1948.  She was united in marriage to Winston Wolpert on September 5, 1948, at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings, South Dakota.  She was employed as the Brookings School nurse from 1972 until 1988.  Winston died on January 7, 2011.

Mary is a Charter Member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, serving in various church offices and other church activities, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Kappa Delta, and DuCum Extension Club.  She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and volunteer work.

Mary is survived by her son, Marc Duane Wolpert, of Henderson, NV, and DeeAnn Kay Wolpert, of Brookings, SD; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
