Mary Ann Legacy, age 82, of Volga, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Arlington, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Volga, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Mary Ann Fleck Legacy was born March 29, 1925, at Flint, Michigan, to A.V. and Anna (Wilson) Fleck. She grew up with family friends, Harry and Olive Legacy, after her mothers early death. She graduated in 1944 with high honors from Flint Central High School. She received a certificate in journalism from the University of Cincinnati. She was editor of the U.C. Night Times and president of the Journalism Club in 1953. She became a writer for General Electric, Aircraft Gas Turbine Division in the 1950s. She held several office positions and retired in 1979 after serving the Ohio Rehabilitations Services Commission. While in Cincinnati she was a member of several boards and womens organizations. Mary Ann moved to South Dakota to be with and assist her cousin, Lucile Amie. She was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church and the Missionary and Ladies Aid Society. She was a member of the Fortnightly Club, Volga Century Club, Brookings Co. Elephant Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and Phi Kappa Epsilon, Iota Zeta, and Pi Omicron sororities. She was an accomplished writer and had a book of poetry published. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and special friends, the Clarence and LaVonne Grebner family. She was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents; a brother, Donald; two sisters, Violet and Vernice; and two foster brothers, Russell and Thomas Legacy.
