Obituary

Marvin P. Ulvestad, 86, died Friday, December 19, 2003, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Arlington, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at the Christian Reformed Church in Volga. Interment and military graveside rites will be in Trinity Cemetery at Volga. Visitations will be 5-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Marvin Peter Ulvestad was born March 9, 1917, near Sinai, South Dakota, to Mikkael and Johanna Ulvestad. He grew up and attended school in the Sinai and Volga area. Marvin was in the Army from March 9, 1942, to October 8, 1945. He served with the 707th Tank Battalion in the European Theater. He was a POW in Germany for six months and was awarded the Purple Heart. Marvin owned and operated Marvs Garage from 1950 to 1982. He married Jennie Volkers November 30, 1951. She died May 25, 1997. His hobbies included motorcycling and building homebuilt airplanes. He was a member of the Burrows-Young American Legion Post No. 114. Survivors include his three sons: Clyde (Cyndi) and Wayne (Deb) both of Volga, and George (Michelle) of Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Sasha, Sarah (Loren) Keizer, Andrea, Amanda, Christina, and Nicole; three sisters-in-law: Henrietta and Alice Volkers of Volga, and Jo Volkers of Brookings. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers: Alfred, Chris, Gilmer, and Ingwald; and sisters: Bertha, Gerta and Inga.
