Marvin Buechler, age 76, of Indianapolis, IN, died Friday, December 12, 2014, at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery at White. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Marvin (Marv) was born September 10, 1938, in Spring Lake, South Dakota to Herman and Althea (Hieb) Buechler. He attended a one room country school most of his elementary years and graduated from Bowdle High School in 1956. He later attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN, which specialized in Railway Communications. Marv began his employment as an agent/operator with the Burlington Railroad. Later, he transferred to the Milwaukee Road Railroad working in the same capacity. Joining the US Navy in 1958, he served as an aviation electronics technician and naval air crewman in an anti-submarine warfare squadron. Following his military service, he enrolled at South Dakota State University to obtain his electrical engineering degree. Marv married Janice Willmott on June 25, 1966, in White, South Dakota. The couple moved to Oak Creek, WI, shortly thereafter and Marv began his career with General Motors at the AC Electronics Division. He retired from Delco Electronics in Kokomo, IN, after 31 years of service. Marv enjoyed giving back to the local communities through his volunteer work. He worked for many years with his wife, "We Care Jan", in Kokomo, IN, completing various activities and efforts for We Care. In addition, he has been a member of the Northwestern Lions Club since 1975. He served the local Lions Club in various roles, plus he participated in numerous leadership positions at the Lions district level. Also, Marv enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and card games. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (Tom) Hankins of Greenwood, IN; one granddaughter, Kate Hankins of Greenwood, IN; a brother, Robert (Linda) Buechler of Aberdeen, SD; and two sisters, Marian Buechler of Bloomington, MN, and Janet Buechler of Swansea, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; an infant son, Michael Buechler; a sister, Arlene Pfitzer; and his parents.
