Obituary

Aaron C. Marty Martinson, age 77, of Brookings, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, at the First Assembly of God in Brookings. Visitations will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Aaron Conrad Martinson Jr., was born August 12, 1926, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Aaron Conrad Sr. and Bessie Elizabeth (Turner) Martinson. Marty attended school in Sioux Falls, Hartford, Dell Rapids, and Trent. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 1, 1950, he married Maxine Gillen at Flandreau, South Dakota. Marty worked as a printer for 42 years and as a cashier at Wal-Mart since 1995. He received a Hero Award from Wal-Mart on August 16, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Brookings; four children: Steven Martinson of Brookings, Larry (Lisa) Martinson of Canton, Oklahoma, Lori Jagger, of Brookings, and Mark (Lori) Martinson of Brookings; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Martinson, of Sylmar, California; a sister, Marlys Werth, of Schoenchen, Kansas; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Delores; and an infant daughter, Lynette Marie. Marty left an indelible mark on the many people who passed through his line at Wal-Mart. No one was a stranger in his line, merely a friend in waiting. His life, guided by his positive attitude, was an inspiration to many people. Sad with loss of a husband, father, and friend, people take comfort knowing that Heaven has found a new greeter.
