Obituary

Martha Jane (Alexander) Erickson was born May 18, 1922, at Mound City, South Dakota, to Joseph and Ada (Francis) Alexander. She died Sunday, February 9, 2003, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota. Martha Jane served as a nurse in the Cadet Corps at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. On September 27, 1946, she married Verne F. Erickson at Pipestone, Minnesota. They made their home in Brookings. Martha Jane was a school and public health nurse from 1954 until 1977, and was employed at the United Retirement Center in Brookings from 1977 until 1987. She will be remembered for her caring and concern for others. Martha Jane was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Brookings Wesleyan Church. Survivors include a daughter, JoAda McKay of Goodyear, Arizona; two sons: Alan C. Erickson of Craig, Colorado, and Roland V. (Donna Kangas Erickson) Erickson of Golden, Colorado; and four grandchildren: Kristen (Todd) Reeve of Portland, Oregon, Greg Henry of Chicago, Illinois, and Bryce and Ainsley Erickson of Golden, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne, on January 25, 1985; an infant brother, Joseph; and her parents, Joseph and Ada Alexander.
