Marshall "Bud" Janssen, age 87, of Elkton, died Saturday, February 25, 2012, at the Hendricks Hospital, Hendricks, Minnesota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Elkton Community Center, with interment in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Marshall Roth "Bud" Janssen, Sr. was born July 12, 1924, in rural Brookings County to Martin H. and Anna B. (Roth) Janssen. He attended school through the eighth grade in Brookings County. Bud married Veragene A. Larsen on December 20, 1947, at White, South Dakota. They farmed east of Brookings for many years before moving to Elkton. Bud was an assistant field man for A.S.C.S. since 1956. He represented DeSmet Farm Mutual Insurance for 30 years. Veragene died in 1978. On June 6, 1980, Bud married Jean Twamley at Sioux Falls. Bud enjoyed bowling, playing softball, watching baseball, and puttering in the yard. Besides having a large garden, the yard was filled with animal statues and a small windmill. Most of all Bud enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Elkton; five children: Jean Gomer, of White, Marshall Janssen, Jr., of Elkton, Barbara (Douglas) Poss, of White, Margaret Janssen, of Brookings, and Joan (Tabb) McCluskey, of Hendricks, Minnesota; five step-children: James (Linda) Twamley of Parker, Peggy (Neal) Brouwer, of Hills, Minnesota, Roger Twamley of Parker, Victor (Liz) Twamley of Oacoma, Shelley (Terry) Yockey of Elkton; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn (Marvin) Steinback, of Brookings; a sister-in-law, Arlyne Janssen, of Elkton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Anna; two sisters: Marie Halstead and Mildred Landsman; and three brothers: Joseph, Milton, and Milo Janssen.
