Marlys J. Hanson, age 75, of Volga, died Sunday, February 18, 2007, at the White Healthcare Center in White, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 22, 2007, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Volga. Marlys J. (Nelson) Hanson was born April 8, 1931, at Arlington, South Dakota, to Nicholas and Tena (Uglem) Nelson. She graduated from Lake Preston High School. On July 17, 1954, she married Roy Hanson at San Diego, California. Marlys was a cook at the United Retirement Center for ten years and Parkview Home in Volga for three years. Roy died July 24, 1998. Marlys was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga and the W.E.L.C.A. She was a member of a sewing club and extension club, and she enjoyed sewing, embroidery, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Gaylan (Kathy) Hanson of Peoria, Arizona, a daughter, Janiece (John) Kregel of White, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
