Marlene Selken, age 83, died on Monday, September 9, 2013, at the White Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, September 15th at Zion Lutheran Church in White, visitations will be one hour before the service. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Eidsness Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Marlene Jane (Lambertus) Selken was born on April 30, 1930, in White to Fannie and Walter Lambertus. She attended rural grade school near White and graduated from White High School in 1948. On June 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to Ted Selken. She and Ted farmed near White for 25 years where she enjoyed the many tasks of being a farm wife and raising a family. Marlene and Ted moved into Brookings in 1975. Marlene enjoyed spending time with each of her grandchildren, always having a "goodie" bag available each time they came to visit and in later years allowing them to drive grandma's sports car when they visited. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Rita Downs and husband Gary of Willow Lake, Kevin Selken and wife Coral of Rapid City, Bryan Selken of Sioux Falls. Three grandchildren, Nathan Selken and wife Michelle of Las Cruces, NM; Nick Selken, Sioux Falls; and Jessica Fowler, Los Angeles, CA. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Ted in 1997; son Marlon Selken and his wife Sue in 1976; sister Donna and her parents.
