Obituary

Marjorie A. Nelson, 82, formerly of Bruce, passed away on July 19, 2023, at United Living Community in Brookings SD.  Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, beginning at 11:00 A.M.  A time of fellowship and a lunch will follow the service at the funeral home.  Burial will take place after the lunch at St. Petri Cemetery in Bruce.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the Anderson family with arrangements.

Marjorie Nelson was born on January 5, 1941, in White, South Dakota to George and Grace (Kor) Lambertus.  Marjorie grew up in the White area, attending county school and graduating from White High School in 1959.  Marjorie married Richard Anderson in 1960 and later divorced in 1983. She then married Gene Nelson of Sinai SD.

Throughout her life Marjorie enjoyed ownership in different restaurants, including running the Bruce Café in Bruce and Highway Café in White.  Later in her life, Marjorie went on to work at URC, SDSU and Daktronics.

Marjorie held many interests including gardening, making rugs, embroidery, feeding and watching birds at her bird feeders, she especially enjoyed making fresh bread with her grandchildren.  Her greatest love in life were her grandchildren, and she was committed to handwriting over 40 calendars with family members birthdays and Anniversaries. Each Christmas every family member would receive a calendar.

Marjorie is survived by her children: Cindy (Wayne) Eighmy, of Bruce, Randy (Theresa) Anderson, of Brookings, Sandy (Steve) Reichling, of Bruce, Mike Anderson, of Bruce, and Jeff Anderson, of Bruce; her 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Barbara Pittenger, of Oklahoma, Larry Lambertus, of Hendricks, MN, John Lambertus, of Baltic, SD, and Robert (Connie) Lambertus, of Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; George and Grace Lambertus, her husband Gene Nelson. Siblings; sister, Norma McKinney, and daughter-in-law, Susan Anderson.
