Margaret Marge Oppelt, age 77, of Elkton, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings. Funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 26, 2007, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton, South Dakota, with interment in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Thursday at the Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton, with a wake service at 5:00 P.M. Margaret Ann (Bird) Oppelt was born June 22, 1930, on the family farm west of Elkton to Edward and Mary (Welsh) Bird . She attended country school five miles west of Elkton, and graduated from Elkton High School in 1948. She attended summer school at Madison, South Dakota, and taught grade school at District No. 65 northwest of Elkton. On September 17, 1950, she married Richard Dick Oppelt at Elkton. The Oppelts farmed near Elkton. Marge entered the Cozy Corner Assisted Living in Elkton on April 6, 2007, afflicted with Alzheimers Disease. She moved to the United Retirement Center in Brookings on September 13. Marge was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Parish and the Thimble Club. She enjoyed needlepoint, cross stitch, bowling, playing cards, baking, gardeningespecially flowers, reading books, and watching television. Survivors include her husband, Richard Oppelt, of Elkton; two sisters: Jean (Don) Knuth and Maxine (Dale) Lynn, both of Elkton; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Kelly.
