Marcella "Marcie" Smith, age 88, of Brookings, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the United Retirement Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Brookings, with interment in Fairview Cemetery at White. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Marcella Lucille (Erickson) Smith was born April 29, 1923, at Bruce, South Dakota, to Gustav and Hilda (Holter) Erickson. She grew up and attended school at Bruce. On December 6, 1941, she married Floyd Smith. The Smiths lived most of their married life in the White-Bruce area. Floyd died May 29, 1996. Marcie was a farm wife and had cared for many elderly people. She lived in Brookings in recent years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two brothers: Duane Erickson of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Kenneth Erickson of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Wilbur; and three sisters: Vivian Hutt, Delores Raabe, and Viola Stahl.
