Madge was born on March 22, 1920, in Aurora, Brookings County, South Dakota, the daughter of Herman and Caroline (Zimmerman) Ruedebusch. Madge grew up on a farm seven miles northwest of Elkton, SD, during the Depression Years. She attended grade school at Alton Dist. #34. In 1934, the family moved to a farm in Fountain Community northeast of Brookings, and in 1937 she graduated from Aurora High School. She attended St. Paul Bible Institute, St. Paul, MN from 1943 until 1946. After graduation, Madge returned home, teaching D.V.B.S. in Elkton, Aurora, Bushnell and White, SD. Madge also held Child Evangelism Classes in Brookings. In 1953, she joined the staff of Children's Gospel Mission in Minneapolis, MN, doing mission and camp work. On June 8, 1955, she and Charles Arthur Shaw were united in marriage at the Mission. In 1956, they moved to South Dakota to her parental home in the Fountain Community, where they farmed. They moved into Brookings in 1972. She was employed at the Brookings Hospital for 17 years. In 1981, they moved back to the farm. Madge loved working in God's good earth, enjoyed gardening, canning and sharing the over abundance with neighbors and friends. Always a lover of flowers, in later years her house plants were her delight. In past years and as long as she was able, she delighted in writing letters to her many Missionary friends. Very early in life, Madge accepted Jesus as her personal Savior, and followed through this experience for all of her time on this earth. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Brookings for 36 years and then First Baptist Church in Colfax, IA. She was a member of the Gideon's and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliaries in Brookings County, SD. The farm home was sold in 1990, and they moved into Brookings, and in 1992, to Colfax, IA.
