IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynda
Bailey
April 27, 1950 – August 25, 2020
Lynda Bailey entered this world on April 27, 1950 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Baileys moved to Brookings, South Dakota soon afterwards. Lynda grew into a talented singer and musician who played the lead role in Brookings High School's production of Oklahoma! Marching band and honors chorus complemented her diligence as an honors student, a tradition of excellence she continued through her time at South Dakota State University. She graduated with a BA in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish in 1972. She co-owned The Aquarium Store with her ex-husband John Wong, worked in retail and at the library at SDSU. In 2000, she moved to California where she served in the Library Acquisitions Department at California State University San Marcos until she retired in 2016.
A Midwestern girl at heart, Lynda moved to Kansas City shortly after retirement to be closer to her family. She loved knitting, crocheting, sewing and making her home a more beautiful place. She always had cookies and treats ready for visitors. She loved Christmas and all the preparation that makes it special.
Just after 10 am Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the age of 70, Lynda joined her parents, Dr. Harold and Barbara Bailey in heaven. She had battled Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Myelofibrosis for several years. A stem cell transplant in February offered hope, but Graft Versus Host Disease overcame her last defenses.
Lynda's daughters: Tami Wong (Michael) Quinn and Melanie (Keith) Kraynak, have big shoes to fill as they try to raise their children; Henry Kraynak, Riley Quinn and Aila Kraynak with the same kindness, compassion and human decency that defined Lynda. Luckily, they have Lynda's four surviving siblings; Cindy (Bob) Kodis, Gwen (Rod) Mader, Pam (David) Berg and Harold (Sandra) Bailey III and their families to share their journey.
A graveside service will be held at 10am Saturday, September 5 th at Greenwood Cemetery. Please bring a lawn chair if you would like a seat. After the service at Greenwood Cemetery, we will meet at Hillcrest Park for food and fellowship.
Lynda loved flowers, but she really relied upon her faith to guide and sustain her all her life. Please consider making a memorial donation to the Brookings First United Methodist Foundation. The University of Kansas Health System Cancer Care program, particularly the Blood and Marrow Transplant & Cell Therapy Center, provided world class care and would also be a great way to remember Lynda.
Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with local arrangements.
