Lydia Jorenby, age 83, of Volga, died Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations are from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga and preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Lydia Marie (Steffen) Jorenby was born April 21, 1920, in Moody County, South Dakota, to Paul and Annie (Holter) Steffen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school near Nunda and graduated from Volga High School. On August 12, 1939, she married Oliver M. Jorenby at Pipestone, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple moved to a farm north of Volga where they farmed for 41 years. After retiring, they built a home near their farm. Oliver died August 24, 1996. Lydia was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga and served on many church committees. She was a 4-H leader for ten years, and belonged to the Jolly Bunch Extension Club for 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and entertaining friends and family. She and Oliver enjoyed traveling and visited many places. Survivors include a daughter, Marlene (Bill) Landsman, of Elkton; a son, Dennis (Arlys) Jorenby, of Lake Campbell; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyle (Dora) Steffen, of Brookings; and sisters-in-law, Florence Steffen of Morton, Minnesota, and Elnore Steffen of Brookings. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
