Obituary

Luverne August Crosser, age 88, of Brookings, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020, at home under hospice care. Public visitation will be 12:00 noon until 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Home. A private family funeral service will be Wednesday, June 17, 2020, starting at 11:00 A.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Luverne was born on July 16, 1931, in Brookings to Ora L. and Edna Mae (Telkamp) Crosser. He received his education in the Brookings Schools and was a graduate of the Brookings High School in 1950. He continued his education at South Dakota State College and graduated in 1954, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ag Business. He was united in marriage to Betty J. Hanson on March 25, 1956, in Brookings. Luverne was employed at First National Bank for 24 years before owning and operating Jackson Jewelry for 21 years. Betty died on February 21, 1998. On July 9, 1999, he married Barbara Bakken.

Luverne was a member of First United Methodist Church, and served on various church committees, Brookings Lodge No. 24 A.F.&A.M., York Rite Bodies, and El Riad Shrine, rural telephone board-ITC at Clear Lake where he held various offices on the local and state level, including state president. He was inducted in the South Dakota Cooperative Hall of Fame in 2012. He enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, and fishing. Luverne was a true outdoorsman. He was a member of several hunting organizations, including being a habitat partner for RMEF. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and his coffee groups.

Luverne is survived by his wife Barb of Brookings; his children, Ann Crosser of Ramona, SD, Barbara Crosser of Dodge City, KS, John (Joy) Crosser of Maricope, AZ; step - children, Todd Bakken (Vickie) of Estelline, Lora (James) Laine of Sun Prarie, WI, Troy (Leslie) Bakken of Brandon, SD; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister Vernia Mae De Rycke of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Betty; sister-in-law Ruth (Wes) Dyball; and one brother-in-law, Henri De Rycke. Memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church or Greenwood Cemetery.
