Lucy C. Brotsky, age 95, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will begin at 5:00 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Home, with a wake service at the funeral home at 6:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to your favorite charity or St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Lucy Christina (Kleinschmit) Brotsky was born December 27, 1912, at Menominee, Nebraska, to Henry and Mary (Kast) Kleinschmit. She moved to Gregory County, South Dakota, with her family, where she attended country school. On August 17, 1933, she married Floyd T. Brotsky at Paxton, South Dakota. The Brotskys ranched in the Paxton area until 1956 when they moved to Brookings. Lucy worked for the J.C. Penney and Ben Franklin stores in Brookings. Floyd died January 8, 1975. Lucy was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in Brookings and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing bridge, music, traveling, and going for rides in the countryside. Survivors include three sons: Robert (Eleda) Brotsky of Brookings; Kenneth (Judith) Brotsky of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Larry (Claudine) Brotsky of Surprise, Arizona; a daughter, Kathryn (Ron) Schultz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ralph (Regina) Kleinschmit of Mt. Angel, Oregon, and Harold (Lillian) Kleinschmit of Wall, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Frank, Joseph, Lawrence, Peter, and Paul; two sisters, Elizabeth and Rosina; and a grandson, Mark Brotsky.
