Lorraine J. Dick, age 80, died Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, at her home in Brookings, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Bible Baptist Church in Brookings, with interment at the Canby, MN, Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Lorraine Joyce (Olson) Dick was born May 18, 1927, at Porter, Minnesota, to Benard and Alvina (Groen) Olson. She spent her childhood in Porter, and graduated from Canby High School. She married Merlan Dick on September 22, 1950. They resided in Minneapolis for a time, and in Taunton, Minnesota, running a family business until moving to Brookings in 1972. In Brookings, Lorraine worked at Spies Super Value/Economart, the V.F.W., the Town House Restaurant, the Prairie Caf, and the Fireside Lounge, until retiring due to health issues in 2003. She enjoyed bowling and playing bridge in her earlier years, and spending time with her granddaughters and new great-granddaughter more recently. Survivors include a son, Merle Dick, of Brookings; a daughter, Cindy (Jay) Jones of Brookings; three granddaughters: Shannon Jones of Aberdeen, and Kelly and Danielle Jones of Brookings; a great-granddaughter, Addison Grace Schmidt, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; and a sister, Patty (Clifford) Toov of Montevideo, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, and a brother, LeRoy Olson.
